The 2004 Borah Symposium |
Ways to topple dictatorial regimes, force change in repressive social systems and other models of "nonviolent conflict" are the topics at the March 1-3 Borah Symposium at UI. Keynote speaker Lech Walesa, former Polish president and Solidarity leader, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 for leading the labor strike in Gdansk, Poland, where Lenin Shipyard workers fought the Communist government for free trade unions. His presentation will wrap up the three-day event at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, in the SUB. It is open to the public and free of charge. The three evening events will be Webcast on a 24-hour delay, and will be archived for later access. A complete schedule is at William Edgar Borah Outlawry of War Foundation. |
